แม่คาแพเข้ารับการรักษาที่โรงพยาบาลช้างมูลนิธิเพื่อนช้าง เมื่อเดือนสิงหาคม 2553 ด้วยอาการบาดเจ็บจากการเหยียบกับระเบิด มีบาดแผลสาหัสที่ขาหลัง
In August 2010, KaPae was admitted to FAE Elephant Hospital for treatment of a severe wound on her back leg caused by a landmine explosion.
ช่วงเจ็ดวันแรก ได้ทำการฉีดยาปฏิชีวนะที่ตัวช้าง พร้อมยาแก้ปวดลดอักเสบ
For the first seven days, injections of antibiotics were administered for the elephant patient, along with pain relief and anti-inflammatory medications.
ส่วนวัคซีนป้องกันบาดทะยัก ฉีดครั้งเดียว
A vaccination of tetanus antitoxin was administered for the elephant once.
ในการรักษาช่วงแรก ทำการล้างแผลเช้าเย็น พักหลังเมื่อแผลดีขึ้น จึงล้างแผลเพียงวันละครั้ง
During the early stages of treatment, the elephant’s wound was dressed morning and late afternoon. During later periods, as the healing of the wound was exhibiting progress, the dressing of the wound only took place once a day.
วิตามินบำรุงร่างกายและบำรุงเลือด จะให้ช้างทุกวัน สืบเนื่องจากแรงระเบิดได้ทำให้ช้างเสียเลือดไปมาก และเกิดสภาวะเลือดจาง พร้อมทั้งให้อาหารเสริมและอาหารเม็ดกับช้าง รวมทั้งอาหารที่มีโปรตีน เช่น ถั่ว
Vitamins to nourish body and blood were administered for the elephant patient daily. The elephant had lost large quantities of blood from the landmine injury, resulting in anaemia. To help resolve the condition, the elephant was given dietary supplements, including those in tablet form. There was also a focus on foods with high protein content, such as nuts.
เก็บเลือดช้างไปตรวจเดือนละครั้ง
The elephant’s blood samples were obtained monthly, and delivered to the laboratory for examination.
แม่คาแพเข้ามาพักอยู่ในหน่วยรักษาที่หนึ่ง สามารถนอนบนพื้นที่ปูด้วยแผ่นฟองน้ำตั้งแต่เริ่มแรก จึงไม่มีความจำเป็นต้องทำการย้ายช้างป่วยระหว่างพื้นที่เมื่อถึงเวลาที่แผลค่อยๆดีขึ้นเรื่อยๆ สืบเนื่องจากแม่คาแพเป็นช้างที่ปรับตัวได้ง่ายในช่วงที่รักษาตัวอยู่ที่โรงพยาบาลช้าง
KaPae was accommodated in Infirmary Unit 1. She could lie down on the sponge sheets laid down on the floor from the beginning. So, there was no need to move the elephant between zones while her condition was on the mend. KaPae was an elephant that adapted well to her surroundings over the course of her treatment at FAE Elephant Hospital.

On the 13th of September 2011, KaPae’s wound on her back leg was declared properly healed, and she was discharged.
