วันนี้ (28 ส.ค.2562) ผู้สื่อข่าวรายงานว่า เมื่อเวลา 09.00 น. โรงพยาบาลช้างของมูลนิธิเพื่อนช้าง อ.ห้างฉัตร จ.ลำปาง ได้ทำพิธีฮ้องขวัญ หรือพิธีเรียกขวัญแบบล้านนา ให้กับ “พังโม่ตาลา” ในโอกาสครบรอบ 20 ปีที่ได้รับการรักษา โดยการผ่าตัดเท้าซ้ายหน้าที่บาดเจ็บจากการเหยียบกับระเบิด ขณะเข้าไปชักลากไม้ในสาธารณรัฐแห่งสหภาพเมียนมา เมื่อปี 2542

Today (28 August 2019) at 09.00, Friends of the Asian Elephant Foundation Hospital located in Hangchat District, Lampang Province hosted a ‘hong kwan’ ceremony, which is a Lanna tradition of calling the protective spirits back to the body. The ceremony has been organised for Motala, especially to mark the 20^th anniversary of her arrival for treatment. The elephant’s front left foot had to be operated as a result of a landmine injury, which occurred while she was working in the logging industry on the other side of the Myanmar border in 1999.

พังโม่ตาลา อายุ 58 ปี ได้รับการคล้องพวงมาลัยจาก น.ส.โซไรดา ซาลวาลา เลขาธิการมูลนิธิเพื่อนช้าง ระหว่างร่วมพิธีฮ้องขวัญ ที่โรงพยาบาลช้างของมูลนิธิเพื่อนช้าง เพื่อความเป็นสิริมงคลต่อช้างและผู้ดูแล

ซึ่งพังโม่ตาลา ถือเป็นช้างเชือกที่ 2 ของโลกที่ได้รับขาเทียม

Motala, aged 58, had a flower garland placed around her neck by Soraida Salwala, Founder and Secretary General of Friends of the Asian Elephant Foundation. The ‘hong kwan’ ceremony hosted at FAE Elephant Hospital is meant to bless both the elephant and her keeper. Motala herself is also the world’s second elephant to wear a prosthetic leg.

ข้อมูลของมูลนิธิเพื่อนช้าง ระบุว่า ในช่วงแรกที่พังโม่ตาลามาอยู่ที่โรงพยาบาลช้าง อาการบาดเจ็บและความไม่สบายที่เกิดกับร่างกาย ทำให้พังโม่ตาลาซึมเศร้าและไม่ค่อยกินอาหาร แต่ภายหลังนายสมชาย พี่เลี้ยงของพังโม่ตาลา ได้ช่วยปลอบประโลมจนอาการทุเลาลง ทำให้พังโม่ตาลาสามารถปรับตัวใช้ชีวิตอยู่กับร่างกายที่ไม่เหมือนเดิมได้ในที่สุด

According to information provided by Friends of the Asian Elephant Foundation, during the early stages of Motala’s treatment at the hospital, the elephant suffered from depression and a lack of appetite due to her injury and resulting discomfort. In times that followed, Motala’s keeper Somchai soothed and comforted her, and the elephant’s condition improved. Motala finally succeeded in adjusting and adapting to a bodily condition that could never return to the way it was before her injury.
